A student from Rampo College of New Jersey lays in a hospital in critical condition after a recent auto accident in Mahwah, New Jersey. Emergency responders found the student, a 22-year-old male from New City, New Jersey, trapped inside the mangled car that was involved in a head-on collision only minutes prior. The victim was unconscious when responders arrived and he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The injuries were the result of a crash that took place around 9:13 a.m. not far from the entrance to the school that the student attended. Law enforcement is only in the preliminary stages of investigating the accident and not a lot of details have yet been uncovered.

What the authorities do know is information fed to them by witnesses to the accident. Those accounts stated that the man's car was seen weaving in out of lanes, occasionally hovering over into a path of oncoming traffic. It was on one of these maneuvers where the man's car was finally put in the path of a 2003 Dodge Durango, driven by a 43-year-old woman from Oakland, New Jersey. The two cars collided.

Emergency crews initiated life saving measures to the man upon arrival at the scene of the accident. The woman escaped with what authorities called moderate injuries. She was brought to a medical center and listed in stable condition.

The main part of the investigation centers on what prompted the student to weave into oncoming traffic. This could have been anything from a medical condition, drug and alcohol use, falling asleep or any other distractions.

Police have not ruled out any of those things as a factor, but also have not collected evidence that suggest any of them caused the accident, either.
